Spot Price of Metal

Perhaps the simplest method of gold and silver valuation is to use their spot prices.

At the time of writing, the spot price of gold is $1,876.50 USD / troy oz, and the spot price of silver is $28.45 USD / troy oz.

Purchases of metals are based on the ask price, and sales of metals are based on the bid price. For valuation purposes, it really doesn't make much difference if you use the ask or bid price. One can also use the London Fix price, spot prices with premiums included, or some historical average of spot prices, a current average like (ask+bid)/2, and so on. In our experience, there is not much practical difference between spot prices for valuation purposes.

The spot prices for gold and silver can be found on many reputable gold and silver coin and bullion sites. Contact us here if you are a company that would like us to link to your site.
